Which Lab ware is the best: Glass or Plastic?

It is very crucial to understand that the laboratories which is used in the lab can have a lot of implications and the results it brings. Also, the material which it is made from makes a lot of impact on how well it is delivering the results. Based on some factors, we are here to present you the differences between the glass labware and plastic labware.

Test tubes are probably one of the main lab ware one would require in a laboratory. These apparatuses are useful in PCR, centrifugation, culturing, concentration and other processes. Also, it is necessary to keep in mind about the flexibility, reusability, size, cost etc.

A glass lab apparatus necessarily has a few properties which make them not too friendly for the use. Glass is heavy and breakable if you are not careful. Also, carrying around the labs is a bit of a problem. Plastics on the other hand are more easy to manage in a busy lab and are also great in absorbing the shock. Glass is corrosion resistant whereas some of the plastic types are not.

Plastic lab apparatus is less costly than glass apparatus. Also, the automated labs use more of plastic lab wares due to minimalistic approach. They are resilient and they absorb more shock if they are dropped accidentally. Also since some of the plastic lab ware may corrode unlike their glass counterparts, they have to be made leak-proof and corrosion free. Also, the composition of the material does not change for a long period of time. Glass on the other hand has this revalidation every time. Also, they make glass lab ware much less scalable.

Plastic labware is safer to use than the glass apparatus. Also, some of the traditional glass apparatus is heat resistant and it cannot be recyclable. But plastic lab ware can always be recyclable.

Despite so many benefits of plastic and the glass labware, the decision to choose the one only lies on the researchers and the scientists about which suits them the best. Pros and cons need to be weighed extensively before taking any kind of decision.

5 ways to make biology fun at school!

Learning in school is always great! In fact, school is that place where it is always great to indulge in activities related to academics. Teachers these days pressurize a lot on the children to learn and by heart so many topics. They also try to bring some innovation but they are not being successful all the time. So here are some tried and best ways to make subjects like biology fun!

~ Bring in the technology in:

Bring in the edu technology in the teaching. Gen Y and the gen next children are all over technology and they simply love it. So if you teach them the subject using the technology, they will relate more. SO try incorporating more technology. Get some activities like PowerPoint and the normal lectures, play games related to biology subject.

~ Do a fun activity after every lesson:

When you complete a lesson, gear the children up for a fun activity so that they will not forget the essence of the chapter. You can conduct anything, like asking them to make beautiful posters or charts about a cell structure or make clay models etc. Hands on learning is fun and receptive.

~ Show practical models or examples.

Allow the student to experiment and conduct experiments. Also show some biology related models and equipment which would make them understand properly. There is this saying that when you do something, you learn it forever. So, make sure you are using lots of props for making the learning part fun.

~ Test time should be fun!

Review time should not be strenuous or boring or fearsome. It should be simple quizzes or guess the name kind of games. You can also make it like the hot seat and classroom jeopardy!

~ Excursions!

If you are teaching our children about biology, you need to show them the nature! You have to take them to labs and museums to make the learning more fun. It will motivate them to learn better!

Should we have a Mathematics Laboratory in the school?

Mathematics, a way of explaining science is the most wonderful subject in the curriculum. Often, it is regarded as a dry subject and tough. However, there is a catch here. This subject might be hard for those who do not understand the very basics or the fundamentals. Thus, if you want to master in the field of Mathematics you need to be thorough with the basics.

Teaching this humongous subject is also no less than a herculean task. You need to be abreast of the topics and concepts. To teach a subject just does not end between the four walls of a classroom, but it goes beyond that. To aid the students and teachers, there should be a mathematics laboratory in every school.

A mathematics laboratory?

Yes, like science laboratories, we also need mathematics one. They help in strengthening the roots and basics of the subject concepts. Teaching this subject needs the proper environment for learning and thus an infrastruture especially for this subject goes a huge way in the journey. In addition, this laboratory will give the much-needed push a teacher needs to explain the concepts more beautifully and better.

The students can also open up in the workspace and challenge their thought process. This will give them a glimpse of what can be done using the art of mathematics.

In addition, using the mathematics equipment in the laboratory can enhance the knowledge of the student and clear their basics. They can be encouraged toward the research and development for inventing and discovering new things. Every field related to science is connected to this deep-rooted subject. Thus, it will be an enriching experience for the students to learn and enjoy the process of learning.

Why are Heat Engine Lab Equipment very crucial in Physics?

Surfing through Physics in school is a Herculean task! That’s because you need to learn and understand about a lot of heat engines and other important concepts in thermodynamics, a branch of Physics. Heat Engines are basically about how the pressure of a working material is increased from a high temperature reservoir. There are cyclic and otto cycle heat engines. These heat engines work according to the principles of thermodynamics. They are all related to the different concepts of this branch.

Some of the common instruments cum engine models which can be used to demonstrate various concepts of physics are:

1) Two Stroke Diesel:

So, this engine model is basically a replica or a model about the working of real air cooled two stroke engine. This is made of aluminum alloy. In this engine, the fuel can self-ignite. This is because it follows a process called compression ignition. Here, the engine runs when the fuel gets injected in the engine after the compression of air.

2) Two stroke petrol:

This 2 stroke petrol engine model illustrates the working and the exact structure of a 2 stroke petrol engine. It depicts the sectional working engines properly and in this replica, the internal ignition is shown by a mini bulb and carburetor.

3) Four stroke Petrol:

Again, this replica is an inside the engine of a four stroke petrol engine. This product is a little different from the two stroke engine. The model is made of aluminum alloy and is mounted on a polished wooden base. It also has a crank handle for operating the replica manually.

4) Four Stroke Diesel:

Just like the four stroke petrol engine, this is also different from the 2 stroke type. It is made of aluminum and gun metal alloy and it is basically made for showing the functioning of fuel injection system in the engine.  It is also mounted on a wooden base which is neatly polished. It also has a crank handle for operating the model in the manual mode.

Now what is the difference between a two and a four stroke?

A stroke of an engine means its full travel of the piston along the cylinder. A four stroke engine is where the piston completes four strokes of journey while the crankshaft is turned. A two stroke engine is where the piston completes only two strokes along.

The Most Important Pharmaceutical Laboratory Equipment!

Pharmaceutical Industry is a huge industry to reckon with. There are a lot of developing phases, services, procedures in these industries and the related companies. Pharmaceutical development includes a lot of processes and procedures like formulation of the product, testing, and other procedures. There are services also like testing services, method validation, bioanalytical testing, clinical trials etc. After manufacturing the product, there are services like contract packaging and marketing.

For all these procedures and processes, many equipment and instruments are required. Here are few Pharmaceutical Laboratory Equipment you should know and be familiar with when you are in this industry.

Here is a little detailed explanation of the few of the equipment used in the pharma industry:

1)      Refractometers: A refractometer determines the refractive index of a solid, liquid or a gel sample. It works when the measuring angle of the light passed through the material.  They find their place in many industries like medical, pharma, food and beverage and gemology. You can find Automatic and Benchtop Abbe refractometer.

2)      The Friability Tester: It measures the percent weight loss of the compressed products or tablets. It duplicates the real conditions which the tablets have to go through when they are in different conditions and then the procedures they are subjected to while manufacturing, packaging, distribution processes. This equipment is efficient and has improved quality control. This equipment is durable and compact. This equipment can be used every day for many products and the footprint of this equipment is also small. It can easily be established into the laboratory or production areas.

There are many equipments and instruments used in the pharmacy industry. You should always select equipment and instruments from a noted and renowned dealer or a seller. Since this industry impacts largely, one needs to be properly ready to select this kind of products.
